For those who have not yet had the pleasure of meeting our counselor, Mr. Dan Waitkus, allow me to tell you about one of the most dedicated, compassionate, and truly special members of our Saint Adalbert family. From the moment he joined our staff, it was clear that he was not just here to work—he was here to connect, to inspire, and to wholeheartedly invest in our students and community. Before he even stepped foot into our school, I had the privilege of knowing colleagues from his past who spoke of him with the highest regard. Their words carried weight, and I trusted them when they told me he was exceptional. But over these past several months, I have come to witness firsthand the depth of his kindness, his passion for education, and his unwavering commitment to our students. He doesn’t just teach—he nurtures, encourages, and builds relationships that leave lasting impressions. It is rare to find someone who so effortlessly becomes a part of the heart and soul of a school, but Mr. Waitkus did just that.
And now, it is time for us to do for him what he has done for so many—show up with love, strength, and unwavering support. Mr. Waitkus was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer. As he begins this battle, we know he will face it with the same resilience and determination that he brings to his work every day. I cannot imagine the weight of this news, and yet he has already shown strength and positivity beyond what most of us could fathom.
Here at Saint Adalbert, we are more than just a school; we are a family bound together by faith, love, and the belief that no one walks alone. Now, more than ever, Mr. Waitkus needs our prayers, our encouragement, and our support. In the coming weeks, we will have opportunities to stand together and show that we are “WAITKUS STRONG.” We will fight alongside him, uplift him, and remind him that he is not alone in this journey.
